Mackay Whitsunday regional erosion identification, prioritisation and remediation study

The Nature Based Solutions to Build Regional Resilience project aims to improve the long-term resilience of the local community to natural hazards including floods and tropical cyclones through the delivery of preparedness, awareness and risk reduction activities. The study aims to identify critical locations where erosion threatens local community and environmental resilience to natural disasters.

The study identifies these highest risk locations by assessing riparian connectivity, infrastructure, cultural heritage, and/or generated volumes of fine sediment that would impact Reef water quality and nominates priority sites for intervention, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to maximise benefits for the Mackay Whitsunday Isaac Region.

This study was designed in collaboration with Neilly Group Engineering and funded by the Australian Governments Preparing Australian Communities - Local Stream, Nature Based Solutions to Build Regional Resilience project.
