Supporting Practice Change

to reduce water quality risk

The Project

Title: Supporting practice change to reduce water quality risk
Duration: 2025 – 2027
Funding: The ‘Supporting practice change’ project is a sub-project of the Proserpine Integrated Project (PIP). PIP is delivered by Reef Catchments and is part of the $5.5 million Reef Place-Based Integrated Projects initiative funded through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program.

Summary

Reef Catchments, in partnership with Farmacist Pty Ltd, is delivering a practice change initiative to address pesticide-related water quality risks in the Proserpine catchment. The project will deliver tailored farm chemical management plans, carry out spray rig assessments and audits, deliver two workshops on weed and chemical management practices, and provide agronomy support for 12 sugarcane growers.

To encourage and fast-track the adoption of best practices, small financial incentives will be provided for spray nozzle upgrades. The program will also include two workshops and an estimated three to five site visits involving local agronomists from Farmacist and Reef Catchments staff.
