Sandy has worked in conservation and land management in the local area since 2015. After graduating from CQUni with a Bachelor of Environmental Science, majoring in land and water management; she started volunteering at Mackay Regional Council’s Natural Environment Centre and Pioneer Catchment Landcare (PCL). Since then, she has worked for Kleinfelder Environmental Consultants, PCL, Sarina Landcare Catchment Management Association, Conservation Volunteers Australia and has worked as volunteer, team member and supervisor in many hands-on roles including bush regenerator, revegetation and native plant nursery officer and Land for Wildlife Officer. She has developed and delivered numerous weed control projects for private, civil and government agencies and has undertaken weed surveys, dewatering, water and leachate sampling activities as well. She was a very active member of Native Plants Queensland – Mackay Branch for a number of years and has a general love of trees and nature.
As Senior Project Officer for the Sarina Koala Habitat Restoration Project, Sandy will be instrumental in engaging with landholders and coordinating contractors to improve the quality, extent and connectivity of koala habitat in the Sarina region.
