Lynda has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Botany (BSC), obtained from James Cook University, Townsville, in 1978, an Associate Diploma of Rural Sciences (Dip Rural Sc), which she obtained in 1991, and a Masters of Sustainable Regional Development, which she obtained from the University of Western Australia in 2006.

She has had an extensive working career including her present role with Anglo American Metallurgical Coal at Moranbah, Queensland, and prior positions being Director, Community and Environment Stakeholder Engagement with the Murray-Darling Basin Authority in Canberra, ACT between 2009 and 2011, Department of Natural Resources and Water in Brisbane, Queensland between 2004 and 2006, Department of Natural Resources and Water in Rockhampton, Queensland between 2002 and 2004, Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries in Rockhampton, Queensland between 201 and 2004, Project Facilitator/Executive Officer, Central Highlands Regional Resource Use Planning (CHRRUP) Co-operative in Emerald, Queensland between 1998 and 2001, and Central Highlands Rural Support Service in Middlemount, Queensland between 1993 and 1998.
