Dr Derek Ball

Whitsunday Reef Islands Initiative


Derek is a marine ecologist who is passionate about involving the broader community in conservation initiatives.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in marine biology and zoology and a PhD in marine ecology. He has spent over 30 years working in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, ranging across Australia and the south-west Pacific.

Derek works within the Whitsunday Reef Islands Initiative which aims to position the Whitsunday region as a globally recognised hub for fringing coral reef stewardship.
