Farmers, consumers, hospitality and agriculture industry spent the day touring farms in our region on with the Greater Whitsunday Food Network, Farm to Plate Bus Tour on Thursday July 20. Over 100 locals were all aboard buses with special guests celebrity chef Matt Golinski and ABC Landline presenter Pip Courtney.
First stop was the Jurgen’s tomato farm in Bowen, where their focus on soil health through biological methods of feeding soil microorganisms can produce healthier plants and certainly shines through delicious tomatoes. A local produce lunch at the gorgeous Hemmingways Airlie Beach was the perfect backdrop to discuss the opportunities of the Greater Whitsunday Region to grow our agriculture industry through direct sales to consumers and branded produce. Land management was a focus of the final stop at the Trimble’s cattle property in Bloomsbury.
