O’CONNELL RIVER BANK STABILISATION PROJECT 2015

The O’Connell River is one of the four major river systems in the Mackay Whitsunday Region, and has been identified as a significant contributor of sediment to the Great Barrier Reef with a large proportion derived from channel erosion.

In an effort to reduce sediment and nutrient exports and improve aquatic health, Reef Catchments commissioned works to understand the location, cause and extent of channel erosion through the O’Connell River.

This project is a Reef Catchments initiative, through funding from the Australian Government Reef Programme. With thanks to landholder, Tom O’Donnell.

NORTH QUEENSLAND – RESPONDING AND ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Find out more about the potential impact of climate change and how we might be able to adapt to changing conditions moving forward.

This film is about the impacts of Climate Change on our environment, the Great Barrier Reef, agriculture, industries, traditional lands and culture in North Queensland.

It is adapted from a report compiled by scientists and natural resource management bodies detailing the impacts of climate change on all areas of our region.

This video is an Australian Government initiative supported by: James Cook University, Cape York NRM, Reef Catchments NRM, Terrain NRM, CSIRO, TSRA and Climate Change in Australia (Adaptation information for Australia’s Natural Resource Management regions).
